Westcliffe, the seat of Custer County, is in a very rural part of southern Colorado with a valley floor elevation of 7,888 feet and five 14,000-ft peaks in the immediate area. It is served by State Highways 69 and 96, only 55 miles to Pueblo and 75 miles to Colorado Springs.
      
Area attractions include the Jones Theater, a former saloon that entertained silver miners of the late 1800s. It now hosts a variety of productions and movies, and is managed by the Westcliffe Center for the Performing Arts.
   
Other area events and attractions include the High Mountain Hay Fever Blue Grass Festival, Bishop's Castle, Silver Cliff Museum, the Westcliffe Museum and others.
   
There are hundreds of miles of hiking trails, and the Sangre de Cristos provide great camping and mountain climbing. You'll also find trout in mountain lakes, rivers and streams.
